Edge of Tomorrow: Quick Review (No Spoilers)

Edge Of Tomorrow Quick review (no spoilers) - To see or not to see

Let's get this straight, I'm not really a Tom Cruise fan. It's not I just "Don't like him" like most other's opinions, I just don't go out of my way to go see anything he's in.
Seeing the trailer for "Edge Of Tomorrow" I immediately said to myself "Oh look another Tom Cruise movie" since it seems pretty common for movies, especially now-a-days, for movies to be carried by a single actor. This is usually a marketing stunt to trick people into thinking these movies will be automatically good.

This is one thing I feel that happened with the new Godzilla (See my "A very late Godzilla review") Where it was marketed as Bryan Cranston being the face of the movie.

Anyway I'm getting carried away, but for Father's day I decided to go with my own Dad to a movie an with the positive scores this seemed appropriate.

It's hard to not spoil things by talking about story details so i'll just say some impressions and let you be on your way

-First off, Tom Cruise is fine in the movie, the movie's plot and action are great enough that he doesn't have to carry the movie. That being said, He does do a great job because the role does demand the main character to act a bit crazy - serious back and forth (You probably see where i'm going with this). So don't worry you won't be bothered by him.

Story impressions

-If you've seen the trailer you'd think the plot would be a single tube to the end, yet it has enough in it to keep the movie interesting. The idea of resetting everyday by dying is both goofy and really cool. The whole thing actually does feel like a videogame.

-And after a while Cruise's character starts to act like Bill Murphy from Groundhog day.
(In other words the movie does take advantage this can be funny too, but balances the serious and funny well)

Last thing, the movie as a whole is pretty good, only thing is it has a couple eye-rolling "hollywood moments" and a couple Very- minor plot holes.
8.9/10
