Happy 25th Anniversary Gameboy

Hey Gamers!

So today is the 25th Anniversary for the Gameboy! What an occasion. Today's post is going to be different, I'm going to post my 25 favorite games for Gameboy, and this includes Original, Color and Advance. Please note that this list is only games that I have owned.

First off on the list is

1) Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow Version

Yeah big surprise, my first game is Pokemon Red, well this was the first Gameboy game I religiously played and the first game I ever beat. I was about 4 when I first picked up this game and I had no idea how to pronounce any of the names and I was just walking around with a bulbasaur and killing everything in my sight. Next up on my list is

2) Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

So I chose this one over the first Super Mario Land because as a kid I personally liked this one a lot more. I always thought the bunny ears were an interesting power-up and I always really enjoyed the different worlds. The bosses in this game were honestly kind of hard, I remember them being some what easy then when they got weaker they would just fly around the whole screen. Also never forget the space music, and for those who don't remember check the video below.

3) Dragon Warrior Monsters
This game was awesome, also this back with Enix was it's own company. This game was essentially like Pokemon but with 3 monsters on your team and you walked around these dungeons looking for more powerful monsters and training your own. The main objective was to become the top master trainer by defeating people in this Colosseum but there was also some evil monsters stirring up trouble. Next on the list is...

4)Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey
So to say the first one was awesome would only mean that this game is freaking amazing! This game took everything that was wrong with the first one and fixed it, the dungeons were so much fun to explore, there actual worlds now instead of just random dungeons, and there was more of a story line to this one. Plus there was a whole breeding system and the tournaments in the Colosseum were more intense, overall this game is just better.

5) Megaman 2
So my very first blog post on here was about Megaman VI, because that is the first game I remember playing. Well of course whenever I got Megaman II on Gameboy I was ecstatic. Honestly it blew my mind that there was Megaman game on Gameboy, because you have to remember back in the 90's internet was not huge yet, you were lucky to even check your email and I didn't have any subscriptions to video game magazines yet so this was a nice treat.

6) Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal
That's right, I had Pokemon Silver as a kid, and my brother had Gold. Silver Version has always been my favorite, I liked the exclusive Pokemon and Lugia and is one of my top favorite legendaries, because I mean who didn't want to ride on his back just like Ash did in Pokemon 2000?!

7)Pokemon Trading Card Game
Of course this game is on this list! Why wouldn't it be? The music was awesome, the game was fun, it took all the fun of trading, collecting and battling cards without spending tons of money. The Pokemon Trading Card Game was the biggest hype when I was younger, I remember we would always bring our cards to school and we did it so much and it became too much of a distraction in the words of the teachers that they actually banned Pokemon Cards during school hours. Trading Pokemon Cards on the playground was like the equivalent of drug trading back in elementary school. I still have the Limited Edition card that came with this and everything. This is it:
One thing that was really cool about this game was that you could get promo cards in game that were hard to find in the real world, only thing that would have been cooler is if you could print them off using the Gameboy Printer. What is the Gameboy Printer you guys ask? I'll make another blog post about it.

8) Pokemon Puzzle Challenge

So yeah I'm getting all of my Pokemon hype out now, and yes I used to own every Pokemon game on Gameboy. This game was fun because it was a perfect combination of Pokemon and Puzzle games. I remember this game being really hard. The way the game worked is you would battle each gym leader as a different stage and you would choose one Pokemon and they would battle the opponents Pokemon by getting combos. The fun part about this game was unlocking new Pokemon because it was always really obscure of how to get them but it was so rewarding to unlock one.

9) Pokemon Pinball

Again going with the Pokemon hype, this game was pretty fun. I thought it was really cool that it had a built in rumble pack. There was two tables you could play, a blue table and a red table and each one has specific Pokemon that you can catch and in order to catch Pokemon on the tables you had to activate a certain area.

10) Megaman Xtreme 1 and 2

So I decided to include these two together. There isn't two much of a difference in these two games besides the bosses and that in Xtremem 2 you can play as Zero as well. These games were really fun because... well Megaman X is like one the greatest games ever, and these games are really good adaptions. I would love to see these games come back, but I doubt there will be another Megaman game until someone buys Megaman from Capcom.

11)The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX
This was the first Zelda game I had on Gameboy, the first one I played was the original one on NES. This game was awesome because it had amazing music and I loved the theme of the game. I have also always been a fan of the top down Zelda games. Here is a remix of the Wind Fish Ballad that is really beautiful.

12) The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Ages
So of course I would put both of these games on this list, Zelda games are amazing. Plus I loved how you can connect the two to unlock certain stuff in the other. These games are really great and plus they introduce characters like Farore and Din.

13) Donkey Kong Land 1 and 2

And lastly for the Gameboy titles I will include both Donkey Kong land games, these games were fantastic. They were adaptations of the Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES. These games were also yellow cartridges and I'm not sure about you guys but I wish Nintendo implement this more today with 3DS games, just imagine with the new Pokemon games and if they ever put Tropical Freeze on the 3DS they can do something cool like blue or yellow.

14) Fire Emblem Sacred Stones
Okay so now I am going to switch over to Gameboy Advance games. So this was my first Fire Emblem game and this is when I got to experience the excellence that is Fire Emblem. This game is amazing, it has all the fun of a turn base RPG but all the challenge of strategy game and boy was there strategy in this game. I remember all the frustration from losing people, I probably restarted the game over 1,000 times. I was so glad when Nintendo brought this back for the 3DS Ambassador program and now I wish they would bring Gameboy Advance games to the 3DS.

15) Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald/Fire-Red/Leaf-Green

So these were some of my favorite Pokemon games, because it was amazing getting to play them on the GBA. Also I was interested in the new Pokemon and I liked the double battle system. This was an overall good addition to the Pokemon series but it was really easy to get lost in this game.

16) Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga
This game was such a perfect blend of Mario and RPG. While it wasn't Paper Mario, this game created it's own style and the humor in the game was perfect. I really liked how there were other characters that fit the brothers theme and were also wearing red and green. The story line is well executed and I also thought it was crazy awesome how Mario and Luigi got fire and electric abilities respectively; it's a shame they haven't incorporated it into any other of the Mario and Luigi games.

17) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

This game is what got me into Final Fantasy. I love this game, I remember logging in over 300 hours of gameplay. I just loved the whole story line, the races, the unique classes, mastering skills, getting legendary weapons, and finding out you could summon gods unique to the races. This game is just tons of fun.

18)Final Fantasy 1,2,4 and 5

I include all of these because I played these games a lot but unfortunately I never beat V because I let a guy who rode my bus borrow it along with a few more of my games and he never gave any of them back. Yeah it sucks. Final Fantasy IV is one of my favorites because of the awesome story line and the intense gameplay, also the music is way too catchy. Below is one of my favorite tunes from Final Fantasy IV.

19) Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland/ The Amazing Mirror

I had the original Kirby game on the NES but I didn't get to play the game much because our NES would mess up a lot and the game would just freeze. I thought it was awesome that if you 100% Nightmare you would unlock Meta Knight mode. Also The Amazing Mirror was really fun because I had a lot of fun trying to 100% the game.

20) Golden Sun and Golden Sun The Lost Age

This game was recommended to me by a good friend of mine and I was not displeased. These games were amazing and I loved the Djinn system and I loved combining them and creating new classes and skills. These games also had amazing story lines and tons of good music.

21)Wario Ware Inc. Mega Microgame$

So I got this game as a birthday present from my parents and at first I was really confused because I didn't understand what it was and who any of the characters were besides Wario. From the first time I played it I fell in love with the fast paced microgame system and thought the game was incredibly witty and fun. The characters are interesting and all have their own personalities which make the game even more fun.

22) The Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap
This was the first Zelda game that I ever beat. I also got this game for one of my birthdays and I just powered through the game and beat it in like a weekend. This game was amazing, and I know I say that about a lot of games but honestly too many people are super strict about games. This was so easy to play and I enjoyed every second of it, especially the fact that you could go back to old places and unlock new stuff with items you find later in the game.

23) The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past Four Swords
This game was very difficult when I first played it but the game was still enjoyable. I actually didn't beat it on the GBA, I later got this game on SNES and beat it on there. Also if you haven't played A Link Between Worlds you should definitely do it.

24) Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World
This is kind of self explanatory of why this is on the list. Super Mario World is an awesome game and when they remade this, it was well worth it. Super Mario World is my favorite Mario game and this was also my first GBA game.

25) Kingdom Hearts Chain or Memories
So this isn't my favorite but this just happened to be the last game on this list. I did really enjoy this game though because they executed the card system so well. Usually when games have a spin off type game they are usually not that great but this game was excellent. Plus it was awesome summoning Cloud to help you.

So I know this list is a day late and I didn't put a whole summary of each game but I assume that a good majority of these games you people have played. Also I know I might get crap about how I called every game amazing and awesome but honestly like I said before I honestly feel like people give video games too much crap about certain things. I love video games and I enjoy playing them so sometimes even moderate games become awesome.

Thanks for reading this long post and I hope you enjoyed it. What are some of your favorite GB, GBC, and GBA games? Remember to keep playing!
