The Steam Summer Sale (Winter Sale for people in the Southern Hemisphere) will last until June 30 so no need to panic too much, you'll have enough time to buy some games. There are 9 games in the daily section that is updated daily, flash sales, which includes 4 games, are updated every 8 hours, and 3 community games which is updated every 8 hours as well. The Community Choice games are voted on and then whichever set gets the most votes will go on sale and you usually get a trading card for voting.
To start off Valve is doing something interesting and they are introducing 5 different teams. We'll talk more about teams later but there are 5 different teams: Purple, Green, Pink, Blue and Red.
Valve is also offering trading cards that grant in-game items and Steam rewards and they are called Summer Adventure trading. These cards can be earned by purchasing games from the Steam Store ( 1 card per $10 spent). crafting game badges, voting in the Community's Choice sale ( 1 card per 3 votes), or by trading or purchasing cards in the Community Market. So pretty much if you want to earn a lot of this stuff, get ready to drop some sweet cash.
Once you collect the entire set of cards, you can craft it into the Summer Adventure Badge which equals 10 points and it goes on your profile.Users also get an in-game item, an emoticon for the chat and a new profile background, and a chance to get a team token. Sounds neat. All Summer Adventure cards expire at the end of the sale.
If you just so happen to craft another set of cards after earning the Summer Adventure Badge will level up the user's badges and get them more items and earn more points for their summer team. A rarer version of the Summer Adventure Badge which is the Foil Badge is worth 100 points which gives everything the regular one does plus 4 additional in-game items.
Now let's talk about teams. So you already know the 5 teams, but how do you join one? You can either craft a badge and then you'll be automatically added to a team or you can go to the Summer Sale FAQ page and click "Join a Team". Remember that Team Token you might get with the badge? You can use that to change your team. So what is the point of teams? Well the team with the most points at the end of each day wins. What do they win? Well 30 members of that team who contributed points that day will win 3 games off their wishlist. DUDE! If you helped your team score points, you get a free card at the end of the day. If your teams wins at the end of the day, you get two cards.
